Everything Bagels

Everything Bagels

The best type of bagel! This recipe makes 4 delicious bagels that are boiled and then baked in the oven until golden. They sell everything but the bagel seasoning just about anywhere nowadays. Go ahead.. make these. I suggest eating when they are warm too.. YUM.

Ingredients

- 2 cups bread flour
- 3/4 cup lukewarm water
- 1 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg (just the whites)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup Everything but the Bagel Seasoning
- 1 tsp olive oil

What To Do..

Step 1 - Mix yeast in warm water and let sit for about 5-7 minutes. While yeast sits, place flour, brown sugar and salt in a large bowl. Mix together with a fork and add in yeast mixture. (you can mix together with your hands.)

Step 2 - Once mixed, knead dough on a lightly floured countertop or surface.. Pour olive oil into a medium size bowl. Roll dough around in it until fully covered and cover with a towel for an hour an a half to an hour and 45 minutes.

Step 3 - Once doubled in size, make 4 balls out of the dough and place on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Stick your thumb in the middle of each dough ball and then form. Let dough rest while you boil a pot of water.

Step 4 -  Mix egg white in a bowl. When the water starts to boil, mix in the honey. Boil the bagels for 1 minute each side. Place back on the baking sheet, brush each bagel with egg white and sprinkle on seasoning. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

Step 5 - Enjoy!

Chef's Notes

- The most common ingredient(s) to put in the water when it starts to boil is either malt powder or even sugar.

- I love to load up on the everything bagel seasoning but you can go light.

- For a more well done bagel, bake it for 5-10 minutes more and right from the oven you can dress it up as you'd like.

- Instead of bagels make these into loafs or even 4 rolls.

Love,
